NORFOLK –
The U.S. Navy Reserve Force is proud to announce that Jamika Isaacs-Poole was honored with the Judith C. Gilliom Award for Outstanding Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) Participant on July 25.
Isaacs-Poole, a native of Germantown, Md., was recognized for her exceptional contributions and dedication as a Human Resources Specialist within the Navy Reserve Force Civilian Human Resources staff.
“This award not only reflects my efforts but also the commitment of my mentors and colleagues who have inspired and guided me,” said Isaacs-Poole. “I am truly grateful for this recognition and I am humbled to be part of a program that champions diversity and inclusion, allowing individuals with disabilities to thrive in the workforce.”
The Judith C. Gilliom Award is named in honor of the late Judith C. Gilliom, who served as the Department of Defense's first department-level disability program manager. This award is given to individuals who exemplify the highest standards of excellence and commitment to workforce recruitment and development.
“Ms. Isaacs-Poole's receipt of this award highlights her outstanding contributions to the Navy Reserve Force and her dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all,” said Vikki Marshallbarnes, Navy Reserve Forces Command Director of Employment and Equal Opportunity. “Within 90 days of employment as a WRP student she was offered a permanent position by John Rowe, our Director of Civilian Human Resources, and her achievements remind us of the importance of service and the positive impact one individual can have on the lives of many.”
The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of Diversity Management & Equal Opportunity (ODMEO) manage the program with the support and participation of many other federal agencies and sub-agencies.
Every year, the WRP connects federal employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities eager to demonstrate their skills and abilities in the workplace through internships and permanent jobs.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor website, students and recent graduates apply to the WRP each fall through participating colleges managed by a school coordinator. Applicants can then receive elective informational interviews with federal employees who serve as volunteer recruiters.
