Command Master Chief Lyons, a native of Springfield, Illinois, enlisted in the United States Navy February 1996. Following graduation from basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Aviation Machinist Mate Accession Training in Millington, Tennessee . He later graduated from Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 154), Naval Leadership and Ethics Center Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 153), Command Senior Executive Leadership Symposium (March 2020), Advanced Command Master Chief Course (July 2023), and earned a Master’s Degree in Divinity and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts, Science and Humanity from Liberty University, as well as an Associate’s of Arts Degree in Aerospace Science and Technology from Coastline Community College.
Command Master Chief Lyons completed sea duty assignments at Strike Fighter Squadron TWO ZERO ONE (VFA-201), Fort Worth, Texas; Fleet Logistics Support Squadron SIXTY ONE (VR-61), and Patrol Squadron SIX NINE (VP-69), Whidbey Island, Washington.
His shore tours include Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans; United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base; Navy Manpower Analysis Center, Millington, Tennessee; Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee; Maritime Support Wing, Naval Air Station North Island and Fleet Readiness Center Mid-West, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, TX.
In 2016 he was selected as a Command Master Chief and reported to NOSC Pearl Harbor, HI where he led the command to earning the 2017 Region Southwest NOSC of the year award. In August 2018 he reported to Navy Personnel Command as the CMDCM/CMDCS/MCPO/SCPO FTS Detailer and PERS-4012 Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In February 2021 he was selected as Maritime Support Wing Command Master Chief. October 2023 he assumed duties as the Command Master Chief for Fleet Readiness Center Mid-West, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, TX. Currently, he is the Command Master Chief for Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command Norfolk.
CMDCM Lyons is designated Aviation Warfare Specialist. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
