2021 Navy Employer Recognition Event (NERE)

Civilian employer support for our Navy Reserve is vital to the success of our nation, particularly as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, short-notice mobilizations affected thousands of Reserve Sailors, as well as their families, employers, and communities. Simultaneously, the pandemic affected how the Navy Reserve does business, including our employer recognition program. Restrictions on public gatherings resulted in the cancellation of last year’s Navy Employer Recognition Event (NERE) planned in Norfolk, VA.

This year we will conduct NERE on August 20, 2021, as a limited in-person event in San Diego, CA, with a virtual component. Nominations for the in-person portion have been solicited from units and members who mobilized in response to the COVID-19 virus. A handful of nominees from the cancelled 2020 event will also be invited, space permitting. No further action is required from Sailors who previously provided nominations in either case.

“We honor and recognize the many employers who support our Citizen Sailors, who are often called upon to leave their families and civilian jobs on short notice,” said Vice Adm. John B. Mustin, Chief of Navy Reserve and Commander, Navy Reserve Force. “In this unprecedented time, however, rather than hosting a national cross-section of all employers, we are instead focusing this recognition on employers of our medical and Surge Maintenance forces, many of whom left their jobs within 48 hours to answer the nation’s call.”

All Reserve Sailors are encouraged to recognize their employers on this web page to show gratitude from our Reserve community. Visit https://go.usa.gov/xAV4Z to submit employer names (CAC required). Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) also accepts nominations for the Patriot Award employer recognition at any time. Visit https://www.esgr.mil/Employer-Awards/Patriot-Award/Form for details.

The annual Navy Employer Recognition Event (NERE) recognizes civilian employers who provide outstanding support to Reserve Sailors in their organizations. It is an all-day event including tours of Navy ships, aircraft and facilities. Transportation and lunch are provided for guests. NERE concludes with a dinner reception with the Chief of Navy Reserve and Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command, as well as other flag officers. For Navy Reserve Sailors, if your employer has provided you outstanding support to serve in our great Navy, consider nominating your leadership to attend NERE.
