Sailor Assistance and Intercept for Life (SAIL) is a program available to active duty Sailors who experienced a suicide ideation or attempt (Suicide-Related Behavior). SAIL is an evidence-based intervention that provides rapid assistance, ongoing risk assessment, care coordination, and reintegration assistance. Risk is assessed at key intervals using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale and managed using the Veterans Affairs Safety Plan through a series of contacts over 90 days following Suicide-Related Behavior. Chaplain Donn Turner Demonstrates It’s Never Too Late To Serve

“I never set out wanting to fly into storms or chase hurricanes,” said Navy Reserve Lt. Kerri Englert. But speaking from inside an airplane hangar overlooking a dark blue propeller plane adorned with oddly shaped instruments, the leap of faith appears to have paid off. From high school Navy JROTC to serving as a Navy Reserve Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) officer and now one of a handful of flight directors for the fabled National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hurricane Hunters, Englert has charted her path with an adventurous spirit and a willingness to ask herself: “Why not?”

Mental health is one major component of every Sailor’s overall health and wellness, and is in line with CNO’s Get Real Get Better call to action, advancing a culture of excellence and accelerating our warfighting advantage. It is also in line with CNR’s Navy Reserve Fighting Instructions 2022 fourth line of effort: Develop the Force. As Vice Adm. John Mustin states, “we must be fit to be Warfighting Ready - intellectually fit, physically fit and emotionally fit.”
